Candace was certain life couldn’t get any better. After spending the day being shown around the ranch by both men, she couldn’t think of a better place to live.

Sitting on the tailgate of Brett’s pickup, the three of them gazed down the slope and watched the wind make small waves across the lake. Although people talked about how beautiful Colorado was with its mountains, plains, and lovely lakes—and it was—she knew the rest of the world was missing out. The luscious green trees and blue waters of Granite Lake were just as stunning as any snowcapped mountain. The air was as fresh and the wildlife as abundant. Most people didn’t think of Oklahoma as being beautiful, but that only meant that they hadn’t spent time in the northeastern part of the state.

“Are you happy?” asked Brett, his arm wrapped around her.

She leaned her head against Ash on her other side. “Happier than I ever thought I could possibly be.”

“Does that mean you’re staying?”

She put her hand on Brett’s strong thigh. “You’ve asked me the same questions several times.”

“Yeah, I know. I like hearing the answer.”

She grinned as a squirrel jumped from the branch of one tree to another. The lively creatures were an afterthought in her life in Colorado, but in Oklahoma she had time to watch them at play. “Yes. I’m staying. But I do need to go back and tie up my life there. I’ll need time to quit my job, say good-bye to friends, and pack my things.”

And, hopefully, get my mother to accept my decision to live with two men.

“What about kids?” Ash peered at her. “Do you want to have kids? And, if so, how many?”

She sat up, looking from one man to the next. “From your second question, I’m guessing you want kids. And a lot of them. Am I right?”

“We do. Kids are terrific.”

“And not just because they’re cheap labor,” added Brett.

She pretended shock, dropping her jaw and gaping at him.

“Don’t pay him any mind. He doesn’t know how much babies cost. We could get ranch hands for a lot less than it’ll cost to raise a baby.”

“You two are awful,” she joked.

“Yeah, we are. But back to the question. Kids? Yes or no? We’re thinking along the lines of six.”

Now she really was shocked. “Six? As in one more than five? As in three more than three? Four more than two?”

Ash chuckled. “I know. It’s a man talking. But we want as many as you want to give us.”

“And just for the record, if for some strange reason you can’t give us any, then that’s okay, too. We’ll still love you.”

“Oh, gee. Thanks. But why would you assume that there would be a problem with me if we don’t have any children?”

The men looked at her, looked at each other, and then broke out into laughter.

“Come on, baby. I don’t know about this lug, but my boys are alive, swimming and ready to impregnate.”

“Oh. So no confidence problems with either one of you, huh?” She grew serious.
